As you prepare to accept payments on
Shopify, it's important to know your
options and set up efficient systems.
To get started, go to the setup guide
and click activate. On the payments
page, you'll see an overview of your
options. The first section is Shopify
payments, which is the easiest way to
start accepting payments in your store
since it's directly integrated with
Shopify. You'll be able to manage your
Shopify payments account and view your
payouts from this section. It's also
important to note that nearly all of
Shopify's financial product offerings
require you to use Shopify payments.
First, you'll need to choose your
proprietor type, indicating whether
you're operating as an individual or
sole proprietor, a partnership, a
corporation, or another type of business
entity. This usually includes your legal
business name, business address, and
possibly your employer identification
number, EIN, or social security number,
SSN, depending on your business
structure. You will also select your
industry type, which helps Shopify
categorize your business for compliance
and reporting purposes. It's important
to be as accurate as possible when
making these selections. To get started
with Shopify payments, you'll need to
set up the payment processor by
providing essential information to
verify your business and bank details.
Some of this information may be
prefilled based on what you've already
entered during your store setup. After
entering details, Shopify will verify
your identity for security. This may
include confirming your email,
submitting documents, or answering
questions. Watch your email for updates
on your verification status.
Finally, you'll need to add your bank
account details as this is where Shopify
will send your payouts from customer
purchases. You'll generally need to
provide your bank name, account number,
and routing number. Make sure this
information is accurate to avoid any
issues with receiving your funds.
