In today's video, we're breaking down
Shopify Markets and how it helps you
sell internationally using multicurrency
pricing, local domains, and different
languages. What's up, you guys? My
name's Ashley, and if you've ever
thought about selling outside your home
country, but felt overwhelmed by all of
the moving parts, this is going to clear
things up for you. By the end, you'll
understand what Shopify Markets actually
does, how it ties together currency,
language, and domains, and how to set it
up in a simple, realistic way. Let's get
into it. Let's start off with the basics
and talk about Shopify Markets. So,
Shopify Markets is a built-in feature
inside Shopify that helps you manage
international selling from one main
store. Instead of creating separate
stores for each country or region,
Shopify Markets lets you customize the
experience based on where your customer
is located. That includes showing prices
in their local currency, using region
specific domains or URLs, and displaying
content in the right language. All of
this is controlled from one dashboard,
which makes international expansion so
much more manageable. The goal of
Shopify Markets is to remove friction.
When customers see a familiar currency,
language, and URLs, they're just more
comfortable completing a purchase.
Shopify handles the structure while you
decide how localized you want the
experience to be. Let's start off by
talking about market-based store
control. So, at the center of Shopify
markets is the idea of markets. A market
is a country or group of countries that
share similar settings. For example, you
might have one market for the United
States, one for Canada, and one for
Europe. Each market can have its own
currency, language options, and domains,
and then even pricing adjustments. This
setup gives you flexibility without
forcing you to manage multiple stores.
Shopify also has multicurrency pricing.
So, one of the biggest benefits of
Shopify Markets is the multicurrency
pricing. This allows customers to see
prices in their local currency instead
of having to mentally convert from your
base currency. Shopify automatically
handles currency conversion based on
exchange rates. You can also apply price
adjustments per market if you want to
account for shipping taxes or regional
pricing differences. Seeing prices in
local currencies just builds trust and
reduces hesitation at checkout. Shopify
markets support localized domain and
URLs so your store feels region
specific. This could look like a
country-based domain or a subdomain or a
subfolder depending on your setup. Local
domains help with customer trust and
create a clear experience for
international shoppers. When the URL
matches their region, it just feels
intentional rather than generic. It also
helps organize your store structure as
you expand into new markets. Another
core feature is the language support.
So, Shopify lets you translate your
store content so customers can browse in
their preferred language. This includes
product pages, navigation, and checkout
text. You don't need to rewrite
everything manually for each market, but
you do need to decide on how accurate
and complete you want the translations
to be. Even partial translations can
improve the shopping experience compared
to an all English store. Shopify markets
can also automatically detect a
customer's location and show the
appropriate version of your store. This
happens through geoloc. When enabled,
customers are directed to the correct
market based on where they're browsing
from. This reduces confusion and just
helps ensure that they see the right
currency and language without extra
steps. You can also allow customers to
manually switch markets if they prefer.
All of these features live inside your
Shopify admin under one section, so
you're not bouncing around between
different apps and dashboards to manage
currencies, languages, and domains. This
centralized setup makes it so much
easier to test new markets and then
adjust settings as your business grows.
Now, if you want to follow along, I'm
just going to show you where you can do
this in Shopify. So, if you don't
already have a Shopify account, we do
have an exclusive link down in the
description below. Once you click that
link, you'll just go ahead and enter in
your email and you can try free for 3
days and then it will go to just $1 a

really try it out and see if it's a good
fit. Okay, so once you are logged into
Shopify, this is what it looks like. We
haven't built our website, added any
products or anything like that. So, it's
looking pretty bland right now. All we
have to do is go ahead and navigate to
markets. And this is where you can
create everything. So, as you can see,
we've got the US. If you wanted to add
other ones, you can. Like, if you wanted
to add Canada, you could add that to it
as well. All you do is search. Okay. And
maybe you would or wouldn't want to add
Canada to this as well, but you can
cancel that if you would like. Select
the currency. And then you can select if
you want to round up to the nearest
dollar or don't round prices. Okay. Then
as you can see it's inherited the
cataloges domain and language taxes and
duties and online store. But if you
wanted to create something specific to
this one, this is where you would come
in here and do it and create a catalog.
You could come in here and select a
different domain and select a different
language. You can also specify the sales
tax and the duty and import tax. And
then the online store is imported from
here as well. This just makes it really
easy. So you can customize. So then you
can create an international market if
you want. Okay. So this kind of AI set
everything up for us. You can use local
currencies. Okay. So then it's specific
to that local currency. Um cataloges,
all products, domain. Maybe you want to
add a separate domain. You could go
ahead and do that or add a subfolder.
And then you could save that once it's
all done. Then if you wanted to create a
market that's not international, you
could come up here and then you would
just go ahead and select the location.
Okay, maybe this Canada is a separate
one. Cool. Amazing. Selected the
Canadian dollar. Okay. Language would be
the same. Cataloges. If you wanted to
switch anything up, you could. Any taxes
you could, you know, you could go ahead
and adjust specifically in here. The
power is that you can have one store but
have multiple different looks and
settings depending on what the actual
location is. I always recommend testing
as much as you possibly can, but you can
always refine pricing, translations, and
domains later as you gather more data.
But let's talk about how currency
affects conversion. When customers see
prices in their own currency, they just
feel so much more confident buying.
There's less mental effort, less fear of
hidden fees. Even if the converted price
is similar to your base price, the
familiarity of local currency can just
increase conversion rates. Now,
specifically, why domains matter?
Domains aren't just technical. They
signal legitimacy. A local URL helps
customers feel like your store
understands their region. This is
especially important for firsttime
buyers who don't know your brand yet.
Language doesn't have to be perfect.
Many store owners delay international
selling because they feel language
translation has to be flawless. In
reality, clarity matters so much more
than perfection. Clear product
descriptions and checkout instructions
are usually enough to get started.
Markets can be phased in as well, so you
don't need to launch everywhere at once.
Many successful stores start with one or
two additional markets and then expand
gradually. This just makes it easier to
handle support, shipping, and pricing
adjustments without feeling overwhelmed.
Let's talk about some of the biggest
pros and cons. So, one of the biggest
advantages of Shopify is their markets
is simple. Instead of managing multiple
stores, you can control everything from
one place. This reduces complexity and
just saves you so much time as you
expand internationally. Another benefit
is customer experience. Seeing local
currency, language, and domains makes
international shoppers feel so much more
comfortable, and it's just going to
increase that trust. On the downside,
Shopify Markets still requires planning.
You do need to think through pricing,
taxes, and shipping for each market.
It's not something you just turn on
without understanding the impact.
Another limitation is that translation
and localization still require
attention. Shopify provides the
structure, but the quality of the
experience depends on how much effort
you put into refining each market. Okay,
now let's talk about the different plans
and pricing options. Okay, so they've
got a couple different options here.
We've got the basic, the grow, the
advanced, and the plus. You can pay
monthly or yearly, but I'm going to go
over the yearly because you can save 25%
off. So, the basic plan is $29 per month
build yearly. With this, the card rates
are the highest, but some of the
standout features are up to 77% shipping
discount, 10 inventory locations, 24/7
chat support, and in-person selling.
Then, we've got the grow plan, which is
perfect for small teams. So, this is $79
per month build yearly. The card rates
do decrease a bit here. Then we've got
88% shipping discount, 10 inventory
locations, 24/7 chat support, and five
staff accounts and then in-person
selling. Then we've got the advanced
plan. So if you are going to use
markets, this is the plan that you're
going to need. So it's $299 per month
build yearly. Card rates do decrease a
bit even more. With this, you still get
that 88% shipping discount, 10 inventory
locations, enhanced 24/7 chat support,
15 staff accounts, and then again
specifically local storefronts by
market. So, what we just talked about,
then they have the plus plan. This is
not $1 per month for the first 3 months.
This one is $399 for your first month
and then $2,300 per month build yearly
on a three-year term. The card rates are
competitive. This is specifically more
for selling B2B and more complex
businesses. You get 200 inventory
locations, unlimited staff accounts, and
so much more. So, choose the plan that
best fits your needs. Before we wrap up,
I just wanted to touch on a couple of
bonus tips for using Shopify Markets
effectively. So, one helpful way to
think about Shopify Markets is as a
testing tool, not a final decision. You
can turn on a new market, watch how
customers respond, and then adjust
without fully committing long-term. This
takes a lot of pressure off the idea of
expanding globally. It's also smart to
start with currency first before adding
languages or custom domains. Showing
local prices often has the biggest
immediate impact, and you can layer in
the rest once you're confident that the
demand is there. Also, pay attention to
customer emails and questions once a new
market is live. If people are asking
about shipping costs, taxes, or delivery
timelines, that's a sign your market
settings, or messaging needs a small
tweak. And finally, remember that
localization is about clarity, not
perfection. A store that feels
understandable and transparent will
almost always perform better than one
that tries to be perfect but never
launches. If you're already getting
interest from international customers or
want to expand beyond your home country,
Shopify Markets is such a strong option.
It's designed for stores that want a
cleaner, more localized experience
without managing multiple sites. This is
a great fit if you want to grow
gradually and test new regions without
rebuilding your store from scratch. And
of course, if you only sell locally and
don't plan to ship internationally,
