You can build a Shopify store right now
from your phone. You don't need a
laptop, a developer, or a design degree.
Everything you need to open an online
store is right here.
So, I'm going to show you how to build a
real payment-ready Shopify store from
scratch using nothing but your phone.
And get this, some of these steps are so
new that even people who've done this
before [music] haven't tried them yet.
Let's get started.
Step one, download the app. In the past,
we maybe only used the Shopify app to
check orders after building our store on
a computer, but now we can build the
entire thing in it. And doing it on a
phone keeps it super simple because we
only have one screen to focus on. First,
let's download the Shopify app from the
App Store or Google Play
and open it. Click the Get Started
button and you'll receive a prompt to
let Shopify sign in. Tap continue. Then
on the next screen, you'll have the
choice to continue with your email
address, Google, Apple, or Facebook.
Choose whichever login method works best
for you. For this tutorial, I'm going to
use the continue with email option.
Next, I'm going to enter an email
address and create a password in the
field below.
When you do this, [music]
make sure to select your country from
the drop-down tab beneath the create
account button.

>> Then tap create account to start your
trial. On the next screen, you'll have
the option to enter a credit card for
your subscription payment, or you can
start your free trial. For a free trial
with no credit card required, just click
skip at the top right of the screen.
After this, the next prompt asks you to
add some details to customize your
setup. Choose from options like sell
online, sell in store, drop shipping,

store.
You can select all the ones that apply.
Then, add a name for your store.
This is optional and can be changed
later, so don't stress if you don't have
a name yet.
Next, decide whether or not you'd like
to receive notifications from Shopify.
And [music] after that, you'll be taken
to a store setup screen with a variety
of options like adding products or
reviewing shipping rates. And once your
new dashboard loads, you're ready to
give your store an identity. Step two,
set up your brand by talking. Okay, now
it's time to set up your brand and get
this, you can do it without typing a
single word. All you have to do is open
Sidekick, Shopify's built-in assistant,
by clicking the Sidekick symbol at the
bottom right of the screen.
Next, click the four vertical lines to
the right of the plus to activate voice
mode.
Click allow on the next prompt to grant
Shopify access to your microphone if
this is your first time. Tell Sidekick
what you sell, who it's for, and the
feeling you want to inspire in your
customer. The more specific you are, the
better it gets. Plus, Sidekick can
remember your brand setting when you ask
it to. So, for example, instead of just
saying, "I sell candles." try saying,
"Remember for my brand that I sell
hand-poured candles for people who want
their home to feel calm." A brand
setting is basically just the
information that explains how you want
your store to look and sound [music]
when it comes to your name, tone, and
style. Sidekick saves all of it and then
remembers your tone of voice for every
description and email it writes for you
later. So, doing this first means you
won't be rewriting copy three steps from
now.
Okay, next let's [music] give the store
a face. Step three, generate your look.
Now let's give your store a nice look.
This is my favorite part because I am
all about the aesthetic and vibes.
Scroll to the sell online section and
select design your online store. This
will take you to the themes page where
you can use the new mobile theme
generator to find the perfect design.
Describe the vibe you're thinking of for
your store in one sentence and it'll
build you a personalized theme right
there on your phone. This is the part
that used to force people to use a
laptop and now it doesn't. Once you've
got your options, select try theme to
preview the design on your own store
page.
Then choose edit theme to make changes
to media images, product images, fonts,
and more.

>> If you select the three dots button on
the left, you'll find even more options
to rename the theme, edit default theme
content, edit code, download the theme
file, preview, duplicate, and delete.
All from the palm of your hand. Building
on your phone has a real advantage here.
Most of your customers are shopping on
their phones, so when you preview your
store, you're getting to see exactly
what they're going to see, not a desktop
version that you hope translates to the
mobile version. Okay, now we got to talk
products because what's the point of
building a storefront if you don't have
anything in it. Step four, add your
first product. This is how you add your
first product. From the home page, under
sell online, click on add your first
product. Another way to do this is to go
to the main menu at the bottom,
tap on products, which is the shop tag
symbol,
then click the small plus icon in the
upper right to add a product.
Give it a title, description, and a
category. Then set a price, and if it
comes in options like sizes or colors,
those are your variants.
Also, set your available inventory.
You can ask Sidekick to write you a
product description or click on add
description to write your own product
copy.
Once you're on that page, you can also
click the purple sparkle icon on the
bottom left to have AI generate a
description for you from a few keywords
or features.
A heads up, generated copy is a fast
starting point, but it can tend to READ
GENERIC.

trying to get ahead of the competition.
Next, a product is only as good as the
photo representing it, so let's make
that photo look expensive. Step five,
make your photos look professional.

When I just said expensive, you're
probably thinking of a professional
studio or a [music] photographer, but
you don't really need either anymore.
Simply shoot your product on your phone,
then open Tinker, Shopify's creative
tools app.
Choose the type of image you want to
create, like studio, editorial, or
lifestyle, then either select an image
from your library
or shoot a fresh one with your phone's
camera. And check this out, throwback,
you can even play snake on Tinker as
you're waiting for your assets to
generate. Also, you can even generate
videos in Tinker from your initial
product shot.

>> Provide any additional creative
direction for the photo or play around
with additional settings like aspect
ratio. [music]
Then slide the arrow to the right to
generate your image.
>> [music]
>> Tinker can wipe the background, drop
your product into a clean scene, and
sharpen the whole shot. Once you're
done, click the three horizontal dots on
the bottom right
and hit download to add the new image to
your camera roll. Then navigate back to
your Shopify store, click on [music] add
images, and then upload the photo you
just edited.
And a plain shot that you took with your
phone suddenly looks like it came off a
brand's website. [music] For those of
you who don't feel like downloading
Tinker, no problem. You can also do this
directly in the Shopify admin with, you
guessed it, Shopify Sidekick.

>> Head to the product page you want to
update,
open the Sidekick chat, [music]
and just tell it what you want in plain
English. Something like, "Remove the
background." Or even, "Place this candle
in a jungle setting."
And Sidekick does it for you in a few
seconds. That's [music] it.
Review what it gives you, and once it
looks good to you, save it, and then
re-upload the image on the product page.
All right, so now your product looks
sharp, but your store still needs all
the pages that makes shoppers trust your
brand enough to buy. Step six, build
your essential pages. Let's go over some
essential pages your Shopify storefront
absolutely needs to have.

that there's a plan if something goes
wrong. This builds trust. Essential
pages like an about us or contact page
are, well, essential. Shoppers want to
know who you are and what happens if
something goes wrong. They are trusting
you with their credit card information,
after all. Ask Sidekick to generate an
about us page, a contact page, and your
policies for refunds, shipping, [music]
and privacy, and then personalize them.
A clear refund policy is especially
important because it sets expectations
up front and can help reduce customer
[music] questions and frustrations later
because customers already know what to
expect before they buy. This is the part
beginners skip. You legally can't start
selling products without certain
policies in place, such as shipping or
privacy, so this step is what turns a
good-looking page into a real store.
Okay, great. At this point, your
storefront is officially taking shape.
But next, let's make sure that when
someone clicks buy now, the money
actually makes it to your bank account.
Step seven, turn on payments, shipping,
and tax. We need to turn on payments so
your store can accept money. When you
have a new store, go to your homepage
and click on set up payments and follow
the prompts to complete the steps.
Another way to do this is to tap the
menu button in the bottom right side of
the app, the three horizontal lines. And
this will open a full list of options.
Then, tap the settings gear icon on the
bottom left.
Inside settings,
you'll see payments.
Here, you can click on complete account
setup.

here, as well. Then, you can add your
bank details so your earnings can be
deposited directly [music] into your
bank account. This is important to do
because checkout is where most beginners
lose sales without realizing it, usually
because the payment option was never
switched on. So, make sure you have one
active before you move past it. Now, go
back to settings and tap on shipping and
delivery.
Here, you can set a simple shipping
rate. I would recommend just doing a
flat fee to start. Then, go back to
settings and click on taxes and duties
and let Shopify handle tax settings
automatically [music]
by setting up your tax region. By the
way, you can always go back to your
website and add more advanced features
on the desktop version. And if you're

it now and refer to it later. Okay, so
at this point, we've made your store
live and payments, shipping, and taxes
are [music] all set up. Technically,
you're ready to start selling. So, let's
make the store easy to shop. Step eight,
organize your collections and your menu.
All right, we need to talk about
organization because this is something
that's going to help you so much later
down the road.
It's important that you group similar
products into collections because it
allows you to keep your store organized
as you add more products to your site.
So, to create a collection in the
Shopify mobile app, go to your main
menu, then tap products.
Tap on the arrow down button to open up
the section.
Then tap on collections.

top right corner of your screen to
create a new collection. Give the
collection an image and a title like
best sellers or new arrivals, and then
add a description. After that, you'll
have two ways to fill your collection
with products. You can manually add
products by clicking the small plus
icon,
or you can create an automated
collection by setting conditions. For
example, you can tell Shopify to
automatically include products based on
their title, category, price, or other
criteria.
Play around with it and see what makes
the most sense for you. Then tap save
and you're done. [music] Now it's time
to build your menu, which is the
navigation across the top of your store.
This helps visitors find what they're
looking [music] for fast.
Tap the menu icon,
then [music] find content.
Click on the arrow down icon to find the
menus section. [music]
Tap the three little dots in the upper
right corner,
then select create menu. [music]
This is where you can give your menu a
name and add your menu items.
Add a label to your menu item and choose
[music] where it links. This can be a
product page, collection page, blog
post, or even your home page. Then
[music] save. Want a drop-down menu?
Press and hold a menu item using the
six-dot icon and drag it slightly to the
right to nest it under another item.
Tap save when you're done. After that,
arrange your home page section so the
thing you want people to see most sits
at the top because that first screen
often determines whether someone keeps
scrolling or leaves. In the Shopify app,
go to your main menu.
Under sales channels, find online store.
Click the arrow down button on the right
to expand it.
Then select themes.
Next, [music] tap edit theme.
Then select a section from your home
page.
A small pop-up menu will appear at the
bottom of the screen.
Click on the small three sheet icon on
the left. This will open up a full page
home screen editor.
From here, you can drag your sections
into the order you want. You can even
reorder them by voice or typing with the
help of Sidekick.
Once you're done, press on the round
check icon in the upper right corner and
your changes are saved. Now for the step
that barely existed a couple of years
ago. Step nine, switch on your sales
channels. Your online store sales
channel is already on. That happened the
moment you created your store. The
opportunity now is selling in more
places than just your own website.
So, to add a channel, tap the menu icon,
then tap sales channels.
You'll see a list of places you can sell
including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook,
and Google.
Tap add app
and follow [music] the setup steps.
Your products and inventory sync
automatically, so you're not rebuilding
anything from scratch. Then there's the
new one worth paying attention to, a
Gentic storefronts.
This helps make eligible Shopify
products discoverable through AI
assistants like Chat GPT, Google Gemini,
and Microsoft Copilot, giving shoppers
another way to find your products.
Here's the part most people don't
realize. For eligible stores, this is
already switched on by default. You
don't enable it from scratch, you manage
it. So, to find it, go to your menu,
then tap on sales channels, and look for
Agnostic. [music]
This is where you can toggle on or off
to allow Shopify to manage it for you.
If you set up your store a while ago and
haven't checked in recently, this is one
of the biggest new updates worth
exploring. All right, there's only one
more thing left for you to do. Going
live. Step 10, preview, test, and go
live. Congratulations, you have built
your store, but before you launch, it's
time to give your store a proper web
[music] address. Right now, it ends in
myshopify.com,
but a custom domain makes you look like
a real brand. So,
tap the menu icon,
go to settings,
then domains,
then tap the small plus icon at the top
to buy a new domain.
Type the name you want,
check the options Shopify suggests, and
buy the one you like. Prices vary
depending on the domain, but can start
as low as [music] a few dollars for the
first year. Buying a domain through
Shopify connects it to your store
automatically, usually within minutes.
If you already own a domain from another
provider, connecting it takes a few
extra steps, which are covered in the
tutorial linked in the description
below. Now, make it public, so anyone
can visit. To do this, go to menu, then
click on online store,
and toggle off password protection.
You will then be prompted to pick your
plan. Follow the prompts to finalize
your setup, and when done. Oh, and small
word of advice before you launch, don't
wait for perfect. Every store you've
ever bought from has been tweaked a
hundred times after launch. The
important thing is getting it live and
building from there. That's it. Your
store is live and you built every piece
of it on the device in your hand. Of

won't sell anything. So, your next step
